A woman previously residing at a female recovery facility in California allegedly took a stolen van and engaged in a prolonged police chase culminating with her traveling across the border into Mexico on the start of the week.

Auto Theft Reported from Sober Living Home

According to a police announcement, a second woman, Nicolle Walters, 45, reported that her gray minivan from 2004 was stolen, along with her car key. Walters, who manages two female recovery residences, named the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of LA.

“My keys were stolen out of my house manager’s purse. I happened to pull up right when it was happening,” she said, adding that the vehicle is designated for the sobriety home’s tasks.

High-Speed Pursuit Develops Across Several Regions

Authorities tracked the stolen vehicle about 12 miles to the north in Simi Valley, where they attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect did not comply and sped away. She attained speeds of about 145km/h on the 118 freeway until the chase continued into Los Angeles county. At that point, local sheriff’s deputies handed over the pursuit to the California highway patrol once Wilson entered the Interstate 405 traveling southbound.

“This one is very unique in the sense of the road situation enabling individuals to persist on the highway and prolong this pursuit,” commented a public information officer from the Ventura county sheriff’s office.

Wilson allegedly dodged all the tire-deflation devices tossed on the road by authorities, as documented in aerial videos.

International Getaway and Aftermath Developments

The pursuit eventually reached the US-Mexico border by 1.30pm, prompting the highway patrol to end its pursuit due to jurisdictional constraints.

Walters stated on Tuesday that the vehicle was located in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was coordinating with the CHP to retrieve it.

“At the end of the day, I’m not concerned with the car,” Walters said. “I’m more at ease knowing she wasn’t hurt. The minivan is easily substituted.”

Owner’s Perspective

The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since last October, recognizes that the journey toward sobriety from substance abuse and emotional distress is often non-linear.

“This represents a mental health and addiction emergency,” Walters emphasized. “There is a need for more support. It is essential to provide greater resources for those that are facing challenges.”

“The recovery process isn’t always pretty,” she added.
